Joseph Gabriel is a visual artist from the Philippines whose artistic practice spans drawing, sculpture and installation. Through his works, he investigates notions of land, origin, memory and sense of place. Using materials that are inherently fragile, visually delicate or in the state of transformation, his works explore the duality of nature and artifice.
Gabriel has been awarded The Abraaj RCA Innovation Scholarship (2017) and RCA Fund International Scholarship (2018) to study MA Ceramics and Glass at the Royal College of Art in London. He obtained a BFA in Painting from the University of the Philippines, Diliman (2013) and studied ceramics as an exchange scholar at the École Nationale Supérieure des Beaux-Arts in Paris (2011-2012).
He is currently based in London and has participated in exhibitions and residencies across Europe, America and Asia.
